**This Workshop is Intended for Mental Health Professionals**
Workshop Description:
This workshop will explore common barriers for therapists who work individually with kids and teens to involving parents into their work, and teach practical strategies on how to do so, while still maintaining and centering their therapeutic relationship with the minor client. This workshop will provide a framework on how to effectively manage the differences between family therapy and parent involvement in individual sessions. This workshop will clearly discuss the differences between family therapy and "parent involvement in therapy," and assist therapists in discerning when to make a family therapy referral. Therapists can expect to learn concrete skills they can apply to their practice with minor clients right away, and feel more confidence in their ability to meaningfully involve their minor clients' parents in their work. Therapists will learn a model of how to set up expectations for parent involvement from the intake and beyond.
This workshop is appropriate for:
Therapists who commonly work with minors as individual clients
Therapists who want to increase their skill set around effectively incorporating parents into their work with minors
Therapists of any level looking to deepen the impact of their work with the parents/caregivers of minor clients
Why Attend?
Increase your confidence in structuring and running sessions with your minor client’s parents/family members present
Explore the differences between family therapy and involving parents in individual therapy, and identify when a family therapy referral may be necessary
Learn practical strategies to successfully navigate parent involvement sessions, including in cases with divorce, separation or high family conflict
Leave with concrete plans (including PDF handouts!) on how to utilize parent sessions to teach skills to parents/caregivers to increase effective communication with their child/teen, supporting your individual work!
